Are Your Parents Strict?

Are Your Parents Strict?

Everybody has parents who are strict to some extent, but are your parents really strict? Lets find out... Here are 10 things strict parents do:

1) They make their children do chores
Parents make their children do chores hoping that they would be more independent and that they would understand the hard work of the parents cleaning up after us. I personally hate doing chores but doing chores could be good if you grow up, have children and have to pick up after them. It basically teaches you how to clean up when you make a mess.

2) They expect all you to get 100% every test
Getting A*s in exams are already good enough for me. However, to strict parents, just an A* is a no no. 99.5% is also bad in their eyes. They expect you to have a perfect score, perfect answers explained to their fullest. It does put you under a lot of pressure, however, it does help with your studies.

3) They tell you not to befriend certain people
You would want to mix with people who are friendly. However, the strict parent does not think that is that important. They want to you befriend those who are smarter that you so that you can learn from them. They also do not want you to mix with other children who are spoilt or simply lazy.

4) They compare you with everyone (in a bad way)
Your friends have good and bad qualities but the strict parent only compares you with their good qualities and not with the bad to make you the best student there is. That is a smart thing to do but it could make children feel bad and dumb. I personally hate this.

5) They make you go for too much tuition
Some average children have english and math once a week. However, the strict parent sends their child to tuition every day of the week. Feel for them please.

6) They tutor their children
Tuition isn't enough for strict parents. They WANT their children to be the best, so, they tutor them themselves. Extremely smart and successful parents teach their children nearly every day. I have a home tuition schedule for after school days and weekends. It may seem horrible, but it helps me a lot in school. I learn everything before it is taught so I can easily understand what is happening in class. However, because of that, there is no use going to school is there?

7) They make precise timetables
"In order to manage your time, you MUST follow a timetable." That is what you would hear from a strict parent. Time management is extremely important for getting your homework done but very strict parents include only 1-3 hours of break time per day, eating lunch included.

8) Art, sports and extra activities like that are unimportant
Academically strict parents think that extra "fun" subject are completely unnecessary. Some of those subjects are : sports, art, card games, computers. Those do not matter. However, a Chinese family gives you the choice (for instruments) between the violin and the piano. I chose the piano. Strict parents expect them to practice that instrument in our break time, so intensively that it is not fun anymore.

9) Their kids pay them in study
Usually, children pay slightly strict parents with eating vegetables, sleeping early or simply being good. Strict parents expect us to pay them in study. For example:
Me: Mum, can I have a playdate with my friends tomorrow? (gives 10000000 details)
Mum: Ok, I will think about it.
The next day
Mum: Ok, you can go but you have to pay me in 15 hours of english, 12 hours of science, 10 hours of math and 16 hours of geography.
Me: Ok, thanks. (UGH)

Yup, we all hate that.

10) They read books and search up about good parenting
Many strict parents search up on how to make their kids successful, but, they do not usually follow every bit of advice. For example, many websites say that you have to be patient with your children. They pretend that isn't there. Recently, my mother read a book about a tiger mother (who is a lot like her) and decided that she should be stricter. I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.
