Escaping A Party full of... - Englishness 2 Storyzz

Last night I was happy. Very happy. Meteors streamed across the sky in arcs and lit the night up like candles in a dark room. But, even as I stared longingly into the night sky, and at all the splendour above me, all I could feel was dread. It tingled over me like I was being stung by a jellyfish. The electrical shockwave of dread was eating me up, and was hungry for another victim to feed on. I could feel that.

A girl in jeans and a tie-dyed t-shirt handed me a drink and smiled at me like we were old friends. I didn't think I knew her, but she looked familiar.

Her hair looked as if it was originally black, but now it was a deep blue blending with a violent purple. A few streaks of black cut through the artificial colouring, so it couldn't have been done by a professional hair dresser, well, not that much of a good one anyway. Her ears were pierced with small spiky earrings. Just the flicker of a smile on her lips took away some of my fear. People stared at her as she passed.

I took a sip of the drink. It was a blood red colour. I stared at it - it looked like wine. I sniffed its aroma - it smelled like wine. I tasted it - it was not wine. It was dark grape juice. Close to wine, but not quite mature enough to be winey. After taking a few sips, I started walking towards the exit of the place. A door with a glowing door frame. Just as I was about to leave, a friendly hand clapped my shoulder and Janeé's doped up eyes looked into mine.

"Don't go! You've only just arrived!" she hissed in my ear.

She dragged me away from the exit and I sat on a couch stained with the drink, chocolate smudges, lines of mascara and eyeliner and random pieces of lint and nachos.

I noticed I had completely finished the drink in my hand. Janeé picked up another glass from thin air and gave it to me, smiling as I chugged it down. I noticed that no-one else at this party was drinking the blood grape juice. I forced myself not to drink it. I felt sick. After a short look-around, I found that I had involuntarily lifted the cup to my lips, about to drink it again. I gave myself a mental scolding. NO DRINKING. NO DRINKING. NO DRINKING. NO DRINKING. NO DRINKING.

After a while of not drinking, I came to my senses and looked around. Janeé's skin has a certain blue tinge to it. She looked almost transparent and I could see a hint of bone through her flesh. She still spoke to me, but her voice droned out slower and in a lower pitch. Her eyes were twitching madly. Looking around, I noticed that everyone else had the same strange movement, speech and actions as Janeé.

I still did not drink, even though they offered me more.

After not drinking for about 3 minutes, I saw the clear scene of the room, and fear washed over me...

Each person's skin was blue and maggot-eaten. Their hair was a messy bush of sharp spines on their heads. They limped around slowly and talked in different types of grunts and groans. Their heads were adorned by two holes, both as black as each other, tunnelling into where their eyes could have meant to be. They stared at me, menacingly, looking as though they might devour any moment.

I couldn't tell who was who anymore. The world of these inhuman beings swam before my eyes. The exit, which was so close by, was now gone, and wooden boards replaced it. The small hole under the boarding was my only connection to the outside world.

I crawled my way through the mobs of the undead and reached out to the boards, trying to get through the small hole.

Suddenly, the room went completely silent and the creatures turned towards me, tongues hanging. Eyeballs swivelled towards me. Their glares were as sharp as daggers, piercing into my eyes.

I had no choice. I sped furiously towards the hole in the boarded door and slammed my entire bodyweight against it - smashing through the wood. Rough splinters drove into my arms and face as my skin met daylight. The sun's gaze hit me. The creatures did not follow me, I was really relieved about that!

I walked, breathing slowly and looked down at myself. There were stains of drink on my dress and my skin was moist with sweat.

Feeling the sun on my back, I ran around and jumped into the grass. For the first time in a while, I felt safe.

Since last night.

Last night.
