Scales

The word "scale" has many different definitions.

It depends on how you look at it.

It also depends on who you are.

Scale - definition 1
A fish's scales or a dragon's scale.
A hard bony part of an animal on the outside of their body.
It could be used for protection or to identify the fish.
Placoid scales, cycloid scales, ctenoid scales and ganoid scales are just some examples of the different types of scales belonging to various cartilaginous fish, bony fish and many more.
When we eat fish, we remove the scales so it is easier to chew.
I like fish.
But I don't like eating fish with scales on.

Scale - definition 2
A piano scale.
A scale on a musical instrument.
(an instrument capable of producing music from itself)
Scales can be is octaves.
One octave is an 8ve.
Two octaves is a 16th or a compound 8ve.
Scales come in many keys.
There are major, minor, augmented and diminished scales.
Major sounds good to the ear.
Major scales are usually used in happy songs.
Minor scales are usually used in sad or scary songs.
Augmented and diminished scales sound strange.
You think the composer had made a mistake because it sounds bad.
Here are some examples of a few major and minor scales:
C major: C D E F G A B C
D major: D E F# G A B C# D
C minor: C D Eb F G Ab B C
F minor: F G Ab Bb C Db E F
There is a lot more about this but if I tell you all of it, the whole page blog will be full with this post.

Scale - definition 3
The weight of something measured on the scale.
A scale is a common weighing device, used to weigh...
It weighs the weight of something or someone.
Also called the mass of something or someone.
The older scales were trays on string on either side of a pole.
Now, we have electrical scales, saving the trouble to place objects into the trays used to weigh things.
It would be horrible if we had to step into a giant scale just to weigh yourself.
Furthermore, old scales had to have a balance of weight on the other side of the scale, making it extremely difficult to measure the exact weight of an object or living organism.
That is bad.
If you weighed yourself at a more high tech place, your usual 40kg would be shown as 40.3028573859275938kg.
Yup.

In the end, scale is an interesting word.
I wonder if there are any other definitions.
It would be cool if there were.
